Whenever we are in the Seattle area, one of my favorite things to do is drive up to La Conner for a day of shopping in this cute little town and eat lunch. Recently when I was in La Conner, I stopped at Hedlin Farms which is immediately at the intersection when you enter town. They have a farm stand where they sell flowers and vegetables. This time when I stopped I took a few minutes to photo the flower fields.

They have been farming this land since 1906 when their ancestor from Denmark purchased the property. There are greenhouses where tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables are grown. They operate a subscription farm. I am so jealous that I don't live close by so I can purchase a subscription. I think it would be so wonderful to support them at the same time I am enjoying their produce. You can read about that here:

They also sell at several local farmer's markets.
Let's walk over and look at the flower fields, shall we?
Snapdragons and yellow Status.
Cosmos.
Blue Bachelor Buttons and Snapdragons in back.
Status in white, pink and purple. Status makes great dried arrangements because the color doesn't fade.
Rows of pink Status and a few nice weeds between rows.
Let's walk over and look at the Sunflower section.
The tops of these Sunflowers are way over my head.
Zinnias are one of my husband's favorite flowers, so let's go check them out.
The Zinnia field.
Acres of flower fields. Ahhhhhh, the good life in the country.
The dream of having a flower farm is ever on my mind. Historically, both sides of my family worked their land. It was really a necessity to feed your family. So genetically it runs in my veins. I have to have my hands in the dirt or I don't feel alive. My flower beds take a lot of care but they are so rewarding. Farming, though, is tough hard work and the land cost is sky high. I will just fill my soul at Hedlin's Farm. More on the very cute town of La Conner in my next post. I do hope you will stop for a visit.
All the best,
Summer Day
